 Vandoren reed trimmer
Author: charles
Date:   1999-06-14 22:28

As you know, the curve of new reed's tip and mouthpiece's tip are about the same. But when I try to cut the tip of the reed, I found that the curve(blade made) is smaller than the one mouthpiece has. Yes, this trimmer is adjustable. But I couldn't make it. Does it matter?
Please help !!!

Since no one has responded to your post, I'll try. I have 3 Cordier [Fr] reed trimmers which I believe are the more-expensive ones, 2 for Bb and 1 for Eb sax and alto cl. I find they do a good job of "hardening" original too-soft and softened-by-playing reeds, and they shape to the mp curvature Ok as long as I soak them and carefully orient them in the trimmer and cut off a "full" but minimal tip. I have seen [and have one] less-good trimmers but have no experience with them. Hope others can give you more info.
