 Concerto in F
Author: Cindy

Does anyone have some advice for playing the third movement of the Von Weber Concerto in F? I'm having a little trouble on some 16th runs at the end and need some advice. Also, what is the best fingering for the high G at the end to make it in tune?

ooh, you're talking about the Polacca... gotta love it... well... the best advice is probably the most obvious advice, take it slow and group the 16ths in groups of 3 for phrasing purposes...as for the high G there isn't a high G at the end... there's a high F though and i typically use the long F fingering which is finger Eb in the staff and add the G#/C# key.................

Actually the long F does not use the right hand little finger.

The Weber Concerto #1 in F minor DOES end in the 3rd movement with a high G.

Cindy...If that is the correct concerto you are referring to, please be more specific as to the actual problem you are having. Are you having difficulty with the fingerings, articulation, trills or tempo?...GBK

the main problem I am having is slurring from the G to D. I've tried rolling my finger off the key, and it rarely works. That part is in the 16th runs at the end, where you slur the off beats, starting about 25 measures from the end.. And, yes GBK, that is the concerto I am talking about. Articulation is also a bit of a problem, but that can be overcome with lots of practice.

Cindy...The traditional high D is usually used in the passage (17 measures after T), and it just takes lots of slow practice. However (and this depends on your particular clarinet's intonation) you might experiment with using an open D in that passage. Just overblow your open G to get a high D. The final judgement of which fingering to use will depend entirely upon the pitch of the high D, and it not being too low...GBK
