My bass... how can I tell how old?

I've got an ancient Selmer Bundy bass clarinet I picked up at a pawn shop a few years ago. Only $200 and after a little tlc it played beautifully, I thought it was quite a steal. I'd really like to determine it's vintage... it looks 70's or earlier to me but I can't be sure. Not even sure of the model... I'm hoping the Selmer model 33, but it's not marked anywhere, and it's resonite not wood. It does have a serial # of 5171, which sounds pretty early to me.
Are there any resources I could use to look up that serial? Or anyone else have an old Selmer bass that knows it's year of manufacture, maybe I could place it chronologically if I know your year/serial #?

Well, I found a partial answer. Researching a patent # I found on it. The patent covers some of the key mechanisms, and was applied for in 1953, was granted in 1957. Really all this tells me is that it was made in the mid 50's at the earliest.

"Bundy" is a model name thus it is not a Model 33 or anything else.

If it plays good for you, don't worry about it. The Bundy line is their student line but Selmer is a good company.

Hi Jasen,
I have an old Bundy too, with a serial #5858, and haven't been able to figure out the age. My husband bought it for me 17 years ago in a pawn shop. I guessed it was a late 1950's vintage, but didn't know for sure. If you find out any more info, please let me know. I still play the old beast, it has been a great horn, but needs some TLC now.
Thanks,
SusieQ
