I need to get the Baermann book that has "Daily Studies" in it. I have a bad photo copy and can't get too much info off of it. It says opus 63. Any help would be nice, I don't really want to order the wrong book. Thanks.

Also, when buying music, does more expensive meen better. Should I go for the $20 or $14? The only difference is the publisher.

well, take a good look at it. sometimes, the cheapos suck! they are printed poorly and have smudgy notes that are hard to read. also, LOTS of typos.

more expensive ones have nice covers, better quality paper, and they're easier to read.

i usually go for the most expensive one, but expensive doesn't always mean better. it is usually the case, though.

I believe the daily studies are included in what is known as Division Three. I have the cheaper of the two and it is fine.

Luyben's Music carries it, costs less than $20 . I have the Carl Fischer edition, Third Division, and it is quite sturdy and well printed. Karel.

I have Hite books. They are good. Meticulously checked, good copy, good explanation. Rose 40 excersiese and 32 etudes in one book with a suggested duration for each etude. And they are priced very economically. That is provably they do not need to earn extra money for indirect persons like big comapanies.

My book: the "authentic edition" of Carl Baermann's (Op 63) COMPLETE CELEBRATED METHOD for CLARINET by Gustave Langenus (third division) published by, Carl Fischer, Inc.
The whole book is intended as "daily studies" and is 55 pages of scales, arpeggios and specialized excercises encompasing all major and minor keys. It is a good, comprehensive collection of excercises that are good for you!! I personally know of one major symphony orchestra principal clarinetist (unnamed to protect his privacy) who would, after returning home from a rehearsal or concert where things didn't seem to go "just right," play throught the entire book, cover to cover, just to "get it all back together." (If I tryed to do that now, at my age, my face muscles would freeze, my fingers would fall off and my wife and dog would file for divorace--but I do get away with doing the diatonic and thirds scales, plus an occassional arpeggio study) I purchased my edtion when a college clarinet student in the 60's but I recently saw an edition for sale a International Musical Suppliers http://www.intlmusicalsuppliers.com Good Clarineting and Enjoy!!!!!!
