a few days ago, a topic came up saying that when you stick electrical tape to your reed, you will get a darker sound, where can I buy electrical tape?????/

You should be able to get it in any Walgreens or Osco Drugstore. Definitely, at Home Depot (probably can get color choices there) - lol

The tape itself is not 'electrical' - it's used for electrical work, like insulating spliced electrical (wire) connections and things like that. It's widely available at hardware stores, neighborhood drugstores, supermarkets or... your friendly next door neighbor

absolutely anywhere..i have 2 rolls of white electrical tape sitting right here (not used for anything related to clarinet, i'm in colorguard and taped my rifle a couple days ago :o)) Electrical tape is the most versatile thing ever invented. Try the hardware section of any store....

I don't know for sure what is meant by a darker sound but assume it means attenuated high frequencies. I suppose the tape would act as a damper....just like putting tape on a drum head or using string for a ligature. Never tried it and probably won't.

if you tape the entire reed. You will get no sound at all but you sure will strain yourself. Happy taping.

Hmmm ... many Germans use string as a ligature and I wouldn't say that their sound is "dampened" to any real extent. Listen to Sabine Meyer ...

I heard any players who use string to fix reed dampen the string by their saliva. Water does not work since it does not give much sticking force. By this characteristics, you can change the force to wind it. This may be a techinique to wind it not to dampen the vibration. String users, please give us your opinions.

Hoisting the pints also strengthens your arm and chest muscles so it's easier to heft the clarinet for longer perids of time later on.
