I really really really really want to go to a band camp, or better yet, an orchestra camp( Is there such thing as an orchestra camp???) I like bands, but i really want to be in an orchestra( like with violins and cellos). i'm 14 and I live here in Maryland( close to washington DC) Are there any "orchestra camps" around here???

There's NYSSSA in Albany, NY- with the Philadelphia Orchestra. It's an orchestral program and by audition. I was an alternate last year and hope to get in this year. There's a program at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts with the BSO that's run by Boston University but it's extremely expensive and not easy to get into (NYSSSA is cheap because it's run by the state of New York). They have both band and orchestra but I think you have to be 15 for the wind ensemble. I don't know about things more southern, I think there's somewhere in North Carolina that's fairly well known (???). Albany can't be more than about seven or so hours from Maryland and Lenox only a little further. In the same rough geographical area, I went to Hartwick this summer- it was a mixed experience, but maybe it would be good for you. It's less intense than the other two (unless they stick you in every orchestra and the best band at the same time with no practice time- this isn't personal experience or anything :D ).
I agree about orchestras versus bands. Orchestras are, for me, so much more fun. Band music is good enough, but compared to orchestra music, not very much is truly great or important. And I'm a violinist as well as a clarinetist and I really love strings. (Some wind players seem to have a sort of string-phobia.)

I suggest that you contact the Levine School on Upton Street in Washington D.C. They run various summer programs and last year started a 1-week orchestra camp at Deep Creek Lake in August.

Micaela is referring to the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and Brevard is the one in North Carolina... also there is Interlochen which is up in Michigan. All three are known to be very rewarding. I've heard great things about Brevard and Interlochen and i myself went to BUTI. It depends on what you're looking for... I got into Interlochen but chose BUTI because I wanted a less "camp" like atmosphere and a more college setting.
