Selmer CL300

I'm interersted in hearing comments about the CL300 (now CL301). I've searched the Sneezy archives but haven't found too much. I've tried the B12 but haven't as of yet had a chance to tryout the CL300. If you curently play one or have played one in the past or have current relevant personal knowledge about this Selmer student model, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. Dan

I used to play Selmer CL210 until last month. I recently bought a Buffet Festival which is the best horn in the world, I think. However, in order to anwer your question, I would like to say that I began to play the clarinet with Buffet B12, which is also a great horn for the beginners. I still love it and use it for the marching band. I've tried my friend's Semler CL300 and did not like it very much. Selmer clarinets usually have large bores compared to Buffet. Therefore, in my opinion, Selmer instruments are really hard to be tuned including CL300. One thing that I like in the Selmer instruments is that they give me a great big sound and nice tone. However, I would recomand you to purchase Buffet B12 because I think it's more like "Buffet", so if you are going to buy a professional clarinet later, you would definitely pick the one like R-13. I recently have some difficulty because of the little different key locations and sound of the instruments. Good Luck!

The Selmer 301, 311, 201, and 211 bores are .573, which is slightly smaller than an R13 bore.

The B12, while a generally fine student clarinet, has lots of competition at that price end.
