That would have to be Selmer. I haven't seen any pics of him with anything else. But i have heard of pics from the late 50's or early 60's where he had Buffets.

Based on the approximate invention era of the polycylindrical narrow bored clarinet by Robert Caree of Buffet, I would bet that the Benny Goodman Selmer clarinet from the 1940s was a straight, big-bored horn.
I would venture to guess that the straight, big bored horn was the reason why the jazz performers from the Big Band era had such a different sound than the majority of today's clarinets.

I've heard Larry Combs play jazz on a modern Buffet - and he could fit right in to yesterday's jazz bands. maybe it'd be easier on the older horns, though ...

Other clarinet makers didn't incorporate the polcylindrical bore design until quite some time later than Buffet. So even if BG had bought Selmers in the late 50's, they probably would have still been the old style bore.

A friend of mine saw and heard Larry play Jazz basset clarinet. I wish i coulda heard that. Woulda been interesting...

FWIW....my '57 Selmer Centered Tone is a big-bore horn (not polycylindrical). It's a wailer compared to my Buffet, though not as even on intonation.

Yes, my 1954 Selmer-Paris is also. Goodman's life is portrayed in a book I have seen, but dont have! Probably his horns are at least mentioned by name. Check your library. Another cl'ist whose choice of horns should be of interest is "Peanuts" Hucko [Michael] of the Glenn Miller Orch of 1944 [at least]. Whoever played lead cl in the early days '39-'41 sure could be heard over 4-5 saxes, which "made" the orch such a hit. This prob. dates me! Check out the video "The Glenn Miller Story" [for the music at least]. Two other cl'ists are mentioned on the CD's I have [war-time hits]as singers. We of course have LeBlanc's brochures which give bore dimensions including Pete Fountain's design. Don

I have been an avid Goodman fan for years and also play jazz clarinet. In my research as well as my conversations with many older jazz clarinet players and enthusiasts,(including Peanuts Hucko, Abe Most, and clarinet representatives from the Selmer Co.) Goodman for the majority of his playing during the Swing Era(30's & 40's) played a Selmer Paris Balanced Tone Clarinet. This specific model pre-dated the Selmer Centered Tone which followed in I believe the late 40's or early 50's. Both instruments had larger bores than the newer Selmer series 10,10s,10sII,Recital or Buffet R13 clarinets. I own a Centered Tone which in some ways I find difficult to control intonation on. My main horn is a Selmer 10SII which
