 Mouthpiece fest

I love my new clarinet tutor. Today, she went to a shop and "Borrowed" 6 or so different Vandoren Mouthpieces for all of us to try, to see which would suit us the best. I found one that suited me, but I can't remember the number.
I think it was B45 13?? Anyway, it was brill!!
I just thought I would ask all of you if you have ever had a mouthpiece fest, what your final decisions were, and the reasons why you made them.
Don't think too hard.
DLE.

I once bought twenty new Larry Combs #3 clarinet mps for my school band and, before passing them out to the kids, gave each one a playing test. It was amazing how different each individual mouthpiece played--no two were exactly alike. And, there was even a difference in the basic blanks used to produce the "LC 3." Two mouthpieces (that I considered to be the best of the lot) were remarkably different in configuration--produced from different blanks, apparently-- than the other 18, yet they were all labled as LC 3's. BOTTOM LINE--it is a good idea, when purchasing a mouthiece, to try as many different examples as are available because--like clarinets--each mouthpiece will play differently and it is important that you find one that is "right" for you. Good Clarineting!!!!!!! (now, how about reeds, barrels, ligs, etc????)

I used to sell new Vandoren mouthpieces and would play-test each one before selling it. I would buy about 20-40 at a time. It was a blast. And, it is amazing how different they can be although they are the same.

I also mass bought other brands and they were even more different. Last year I bought and sold over 400 mouthpieces--including some Kaspars. I must say I like the Kaspars best--next my Greg Smiths (which I kept for myself) and Charles Bays (which I also kept).

This year I'm out of the business because my distributer went back to teaching high school band and the new guy didn't want to sell to an individual.

Well, it was fun and I learned a lot.
