I have searched high and low, and your site produced the only information on the markings found on a metal clarinet that I am learning to play on. However, the only information found is that of a US Government Import. Is there no record of dates, and information on A.Lefevres. Any information would be deeply appreciated. Who was he or she and why is his or her name on this instrument? Did I miss class that day?

I'm sure that Mark can probably find something in the New Langwell Index. I doubt that you slept through class though. There have been hundreds if not thousands of clarinet makers come and go. Then you add the importers who stenciled instruments. There's no way one can expect to have heard of them all.

From a list I found somewhere, "A. Lefevres" is a stencil name for various instruments imported from France by the U.S. Government (similar to "A. Fontaine", "Coudet", "Greville", "Guy Humphrey", etc. etc.). I recall reading that most of these instruments came into the U.S. during or just prior to WWII. I'm not sure you'll be able to find out who actually made it. Good luck!
