Great deal on new R-13s

While trying out some instruments for a new student, I overheard the owners of Gary Armstrong Woodwinds in Toronto that they were selling new R-13s at $2000 CDN. Considering the current exchange rate, that's about $1300 US.

Is thare any difference b/w the R13 made in the 70' or a newer ones? Ebay has a couple of then with big price difference, considering the sax market the old instruments are better made, is that the same case on clarinets?
