What is your opinion of Black Masters? Also, what is the difference in cut between Black Masters and V12s? Thanks
Benny

To me, they played great but seemed to want to play at a slightly higher pitch than the V12's. As I recall, they are not quite as large in the butt end as the V12's which could account for this. Good Luck!

From what I have heard from Mindy's teacher and from teh people where we buy her Black Masters, they are smaller than the V12's since they are designed to fit the smaller German m/p's.-- Narrower and shorter-- Mindy likes these and so does her teacher since they are smaller on the American m/p they vibrate more and that may account for the "higher" pitch that some people hear when they use these. They have a harder time fitting on the mp and you must fit it carefully or it won't play well at all and will sound terrible.

I like the Black Masters. I use them on occasion. I only have a few problems with getting them to last long time, and sometimes they have squeeky problem. I have done is taking my V12 reeds, narrowed them at the sides, clipped the V12 reed, and put the v12 on the Reedual and used a Black Master as a model and made some really good reeds out of that. The Black Masters themselves are worth trying out.

My friend recommended them, but he plays on a Pyne mouthpiece and uses a 3 strength. I normally use a Vandoreen bluebox 5 on an M13 mouthpiece. I tried one of his 3 strength black masters and found it responsive, but too soft in the heart. However, he said that anything above a 3 is too hard and these reeds don't respond well to fussing. Any suggestions?
