 Interesting Morning Edition Report
Author: Don Poulsen
Date:   2001-10-15 17:51

Last Friday (10/12) morning, NPR news had an interesting report on Dr. Frederick Starr and his double life as a central Asian scholar and as a clarinetist and bandleader for the Louisiana Repertory Jazz Ensemble. As a member of this group which plays on period instruments, he plays an Albert-system clarinet. You have probably heard him recently speaking about Afghanistan, because he has been interviewed over 200 times since Sept. 11.

The report can be heard by going to http://search.npr.org/cf/cmn/cmnpd01fm.cfm?PrgDate=10/12/2001&PrgID=3, scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking on "A Scholar's Double Life."

Wow! I really enjoyed that! People, you gotta hear this one. Thanks Don. You never know about people who play the clarinet. He sounds great, even on the real audio clip.
