I want to buy an A clarinet of my own because I play on a pretty horrible loan for orchestra. What is the best brand to buy? Should I buy a mouthpiece specifically for that instrument, or can I use the cood one I have for my Bb clarinet?

I posted a very similar message a while back and the response I got (almost unanimously) was the same brand that your Bb is--generally, it will make adjusting and switching instruments between movements much easier.

If you are looking for an a clarinet it also depends on the money you are willing to spend. I first recomend that you do by what ever you Bb. for around the 2300 and under i would recommend the Buffet R-13, alot may say festival because of the extra Eb key and whatever but they really don't project which is needed to cut through an orchestra. Also which is a a remarkable instrument is the LeBlanc Concerto they are getting more well known. If you wanna go up into the 3300 range of instments look at the Buffet Prestige R 13, The LebLanc Opus is the exact same thing as the concerto except with an Eb Key and metal tenons on all joints. Goodluck in finding something

James,
The Festival projects just fine in many people's hans. Whether or not you like the way it sounds is another thing.
