 ARTIE SHAW

For those of you with cable or satellite, I just saw an announcment on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) about a movie (missed the name) to be aired Monday evening 8:00 EDT (verify time).

The movie stars Lana Turner but also has appearances by Artie Shaw and his band.

You younger people can get an idea of how we had to suffer back in the "black & white" days with a minimum of violence.

Enjoy some of Artie's tunes.

Another Artie Shaw movie worth noting is "2nd Chorus," starring Fred Astair and Burgess Merideth, with appearances by the Artie Shaw band. A comedy about two college trumpet players auditioning for chairs in name big bands of the era. This is the movie for which his CONCERTO FOR CLARINET was written and featured in one scene. Well worth a trip to the video store. Good Clarineting--and viewing in black and white.

DON,
I really thought I saw the time advertised to be 8:00 PM Eastern, which would make it 7:00 PM central -- dunno, till tomorrow eve.

Then again, it could have been on a Monday other than tomorrow -- I just caught it from the other room when I heard a CLARINET!! and rushed into the Living Room in time to catch the tail end of the ad.

It seems that TCM (Turner Classic Movies) is doing a Lana Turner marathon tomorrow night (10/15). At 8 pm(EST) is "Dancing Co-Ed" with Lana Turner (she would later marry Artie) and Artie Shaw and his band.

http://www.blockbuster.com/bb/movie/details/0,4241,VID-V++++88506,00.html

At 9:30pm(EST) is "Bachelor in Paradise" with Lana Turner, at 11:30pm(EST) is "Latin Lovers" with Lana Turner, at 1:30am(EST) is "Marriage is a Private Affair" with Lana Turner, at 3:30am(EST) is "Two Girls on Broadway" with Lana Turner, and finally at 5:00am(EST) is "We Who Are Young" with (you guessed it) Lana Turner.

A free box of Rico #1 1/2 for anyone who watches them all...GBK

Me too, [or 3] . Yes our "Lana" series comes on at 7P and will go longer than I can stay awake. Will try to tape the A S segments for nostalgia. TKS, Don
