I thought i would throw this out to get some reaction..
I repair band instruments, and along with the others..clarinets.
On occasion I've had the a few clarinets including Alto clarinets that have come
into my shop after being repadded some where else. I seem to feel the pads
used are too big ...Big square sided pads. The kind you might use on Buffet
or Selmer. These noblet and vito clarinets do not do well with this style pad.
After repadding with smaller leblanc style pads these horns start behaving
properly....How about that...anyone agree???? Thanks

I pretty much use Kraus 101T's and 101's. I like the thin pad the best, but I stock the medium pad for those instruments that require a little thicker pad. I like the harder felt in these pads. Yes, agreed....

I almost always avoid installing pads that project a long way. It mucks up venting and gives notes a stuffy sound, especially with harder reeds.
Technicians that install thick, stuffy-sounding pads can't be clarinet players.
