Is anyone out there familiar with the Bradley adjustable tuning barrel?
As I had mentioned in another thread, I need a replacement barrel for an older A clarinet I own, which has a cracked barrel. The barrel has since been repaired, but I want to put it away as part of the clarinet's original equipment and use another one to play.
I ordered the Bradley tuning barrel fom the Woodwinds-Brasswinds catalog to try it out, and while I have not tried it on the A clarinet as of yet, I did try it on a Bb and have sort of mixed feelings about it.
Since the upper tennon joint of the A clarinet is longer than "normally" found, I don't know that a stock barrel will fit it, but I had been wanting to try out one of these anyway, and saw a legitimate opportunity (read excuse) to order one.
Whether I keep this one or not, I will probably wind up sending my present barrel to one of the Sneezy sponsors to try and duplicate it in wood, but I have not made that decision yet, or to whom it should be sent.
Of course, it sounds somewhat different than the original Bb barrel. It feels like it is made machined aluminum inside and out, so it will give a different quality of sound to the instrument. A not entirely unpleasant one, just different.
I'd like to hear about any other experiences anyone has had with them, and what their impression of it is.
I have not played it with a tuner yet either, but it has an adjustment range from 59mm to 69mm, which is quite a lot of adjustment.

I have had a Bradley "Perfect Pitch" tuning barrel for a couple of years now --- I have tried it on a number of clarinet and find it generally seems not to help the tone (it doesn't degrade it per se, but certainly doesn't improve it) so I just keep it around for those occasional out-of-the-ordinary tuning situations.
