The biggest advantage is the ability to play in an orchestra, where a good portion of the repertoire requires an A clarinet.
The fingering and music for an A clarinet looks identical to the music and fingering for a Bb clarinet (or, indeed, for most all the different keyed clarinets with a few notable occasional exceptions) - do a search on "transposing instrument" here on the Bboard for an explanation if possibly you were confused about what the difference between Bb and A clarinets is.

I don't play in an orchestra, but I have several Bb sopranos, an Eb soprano, an Eb alto, and an A soprano.
I enjoy playing them all and I'm looking for a C soprano.
But Mark is absolutely correct, the Bb and A are the most requested in an orchestra, although for those clarinetists that can afford it, the C and the Eb can't hurt.
