Thr fingering are usually the same. There is an excellent book, The Orchestral Eb Clarinet Book that is a lot of help to learn this instrument.

The fingerings are the same. However in the altissimo register you may find that some of the alternate fingerings are better than the ones you normally use on the Bb.

Dee,

I just recently asked a similar question and got a similar answer, which was one I basically already knew.

But my son, Daniel, brought up an interesting question after that, what if you would prefer to have an actual chart detailing the specific note nomenclature of the fingerings?

The fingerings are the same as in a Bb, I can, for instance play the same piece, pretty much with the same fingerings from a Bb to an Eb, but the notes would differ, by virtue of the piece being played in a different scale.

Where, then, would you find it, without having to write your own chart?

He hasn't said so, in so many words, but he is the one who started this question for me, originally, and apparently wants a such a chart. I have a feeling he is not alone in that.

Peter,
It generally isn't done - the clarinet being what is known as a transposing instrument, you play the notes as written for the instrument, not as written in concert pitch. You would have to develop your own chart - or learn how to sight transpose. There's a wealth of information already here on the BBoard on how you can accomplish sight transposing (on a really basic level it involves mentally changing the key signature).

Thanks Mark, I had already fugured that it would wind up like that, otherwise the availability of the Eb fingering charts would tend to be more.

I have never had to pay a great deal of attention to transposing from written music, but I can (how ever badly.) Daniel is better at transposing, by virtue of having a hard-core orchestra oriented music teacher.

We'll just work on a chart and make it pretty in the computer!

you may want to look at "Orchestral studies for Eflat Clarinet" by Peter Hadcock
Although the fingerings are generally the same he does suggest alternatives for some of the higher notes to improve tuning/intonation
