I was just wondering what the opinion was on cloth pads compared to cork ones? I had cork ones put on my upper joint and I was just curious about it.

You might search the board for this as there have been many posts in the past.

Cloth is not used for pads. Perhaps you mean membrane/bladder/fish-skin/gold-beaters-skin. these all mean the same - basically sausage skin.
Other options are leather, Gortex, Norbec, and a host of other (mostly poor) synthetic materials.
See the other posts through a 'search'. 'The subject has been very well covered.

Gortex? How do THOSE sound? The term sounds familiar outside of pads, like something in guitar strings or whatnot.

Time will tell, but they will likely prove to be the best synthetic pad yet.
At least one of the major manufacturers is using them.
I believe they look similar to white leather pads.
Gortex is possibly familiar as a waterproof laminate used in fabric for wet-weather gear, claimed to be breathable - allowing water vapour through but not liquid water.

Gortex is used most frequently in outerwear (Jackets and the like).
