FYI--Just received my third eBay purchase and wanted to report that all three items arrived in perfect condition and were exactly in the same, or better, condition than was advertised. I do not mean this to be an ad for eBay, but rather some reassuring info for any future users out there. I might also report a successful sale through Sneezy Classifieds, of a Kasper mpc (yes, a percentage of the sale was sent in). Good Clarineting

Congratulations on your purchases. I think eBay is a well designed system, but I must report that I am having an unsatisfactory experience with my first purchase--no delivery and no communication for more than a month. The seller had an excellent feedback history and, I understand, plays professionally with a metropolitan symphony. As the old sergeant used to say, "Let's be careful out there."

It's all about feed-back with Ebay. Although I know there are horror stories, no one with a lot of feed back has ever given me a hard time.

I bought my flute off of Ebay and had a pleasant experience all the way around. If I were to do it again, I'd probably ask more questions up front, but I ended up getting a good instrument at a decent price.

Protection-Protection-Protection ..... just put the ebay purchase on a credit card? If the item isn't received ... request a CHARGEBACK. Barring that you have to go to old "fallback" ....someone who doesn't offer credit cards is SUSPECT (albeit not convicted) .... you call them on the phone and ask the proper questions ... request a COD, if necessary. mw

I got burned on a clarinet puchase recently.
Bid on a Selmer Signet...got sent a plastic Vito, the lady swears it's signet
somewhere,maybe on the case , but in actuality, the word Signet is nowhere to be found. She' tells me i'm stuck with it...not nice!!!!

So far I've have good experiences with the sellers on eBay. My best exoerience was the Leblanc EEb contra I "won" this summer. It was far better than expected. It had obviously been in storage some where for years and not played much at all. It was the mouthpiece. Although like new it wouldn't hardly speak. When I put mine on it, it played beautiful. The worst experience was waiting for the contra to arrive, kinda like a kid on Christmas eve. It seems UPS couldn't find my little podunk town and it got the 10 cent tour of Texas. So many movements they actually lost track of it. Yes, it was insured, but finding another this clean would be imposible short of buying a new one.

Communicate with the seller before you bid. If they communicate back with you and offer phone numbers and information about the instrument or other item and have positive feedback and experience with clarinets and musical instruments, you'll probably be ok. That doesn't mean you won't get disappointed from time to time. Every once in a while I get something that I'm decidedly disappointed in, but give the seller the benefit of the doubt about it and figure perhaps I had too high an expectation on the item.
However, not getting the item is something entirely different. As mw and others have mentioned, eBay will support you in helping to get the item or get a reimbursement for it. Contact them through their safeharbor (see buying and selling tools) and they'll get back with you on this. It's something they really work to prevent because of the reputation for fraud that some online auctions have gotten.
