I don't really believe this is the actuall clarinet used in the movie. I thought the clarinet they used in the movie was a Selmer, especially after the advertising were the young Benny Gooman admires one of his piers new Selmer clarinet.
I think its funny that his local woodwind expert made sure to point out it needed a new reed.

I think it's even more hilarious that anyone could think this old dog is worth 500 bucks. Maybe I should visit that "local wind instrument specialist" and give him first shot to buy a few of my marvels at really great prices.

As I recall, one of his 'piers' was a real stick-in-the-mud.
Steve Allen was a pianna playa, I hate to think what he was doing widdan Albert system horn between takes.
'Never give a sucker an even break."
We're going to need a 'Collector's corner' soon.

I think BG started out on an Albert system clarinet, though he switched to Boehm. I haven't seen the movie in a long time, but as I recall, the clarinet Steve Allen pretends to play has Boehm keywork. I would have recognized the difference. I think Allen took some clarinet lessons so he would at least put his fingers in the right place. He was a pretty good musician.
The eBay instrument seems to have a bolt stuck through just below the mouthpiece, like Boris Karloff in Frankenstein. A true un-dead clarinet.
