Hello

I am currently looking for this book:

Vasquez, Ronald
Reed Makers Handbook
Annapolis, MD: R.V. Publishing

I have looked on amazon and through the sponsors here(of coure i may have missed it). Can any one suggest where i may be able to buy a copy? Also, if any one knows of any other books that document well the process of going from tube to reed i would love the suggestions.

Thanks for your time,

Jeff

Kalman Opperman's book is being "reprinted". I keep on faxing & calling the number on Long Island of the puiblsher, M Baron, and get no answer or response. The phone is working. M Baron & Co stinks! Perhaps Ken Shaw can give us an assist when things reach a state which allows this.

The Vasquez book is out of print. The ICA Library has it for loam, or at least I thought they did the last I checked a couple of years back. The ICA Library is a great reason to join ICA !

best,
mw

Hello again,

Have to say this curt how many pages is the book? IF you are able to get it, then copy it. you are by law allowed one copy for personal use i would go to town.

Also, i located this book today:

A Book for the Clarinet Reed Maker: An Illustrated Single Reed Making Method
Ronald Vazquez
Annapolis, MD: R.V. Publishing 1993

ah is this the same book

thanks

Yes, that is Vasquez's treatise. Hardly seems like an insighttful idea, or fair to the author to go about copying it, though. No doubt it will be reprinted. Muncy Winds & others have had it on back order for a long time. In the past I have requested permission to copy.

That was the case with the Little Pinkies Exercise Book that a thoughtful Sneezy-ite loaned to me for perusal. First though, I tracked down the legal owner only to find out that the Plates had been destroyed; I even inquired on buying the rights, but they didn't have any interest --- only because they thought it wasn't worthwhile --- "go ahead & copy" I was told. best, mw

Actually the Fair Use clause of the US Copyright is a bit more complex than that, and in some countries there is no "Fair Use" clause.

Copying a book, even an out of print one, and passing it on may or may not be considered Fair Use. It's been adjudicated both ways.

hello

I certainly did not intend for anyone to start a piracy ring. In addition, i am a huge fan of suppprting those who have taken the time to record, in one way or another, a special skill that they have. So, please don't feel that i was encouraging anyone to send me a zerox copy. If it is out of print and not available, which i am still trying to find out, then that may be the only way that one could, for personal use, have the information for an extended period of time. So. my apologies i would simply like to purchase a copy.

If anyone finds out anything further about the availibility of the book i would love to know how to get it.

thanks
Jeff

"A Selected Clarinet Biblography" - Richard Faria, Fall 1997 (Please note: the I.C. Music Library does not own all the following items; but we have added call numbers and links to those items that can be found here)"

"Vazquez, Ronald. A Book for the Clarinet Reed-Maker. Annapolis, MD: R.V. Publishing, 1993. [Not in IC library]"
-------------------------
ICA is no help. Last address I had for Vazques was at West Point, NY.

best,

mw -

I speak with Kalmen Opperman every month or so, and about once a year ask him when Baron will reissue his reed book. Each time, he says they have promised that it will come out "real soon now," but they never seem to get around to it.

Kal told me that he has made extensive additions and revisions, so I'm anxious to get the new edition. We just have to wait. Sorry I can't tell you more, but even Kal doesn't know when the date is.

Best regards.

Ken Shaw
