I am sure that many of us are still recovering from Clarinetfest 2001 but not too early to push for the format of Clarinetfest 2002. I do not know how many of us can afford the time or money to make it to Stockholm but from my experience the European Congresses-Meetings-Fests can have a much more academic and discussion oriented flavor. I notice that the organizing committee is calling for subjects, abstracts, titles already.
Perfect Opportunity - perhaps we can get some industry-manufacturing types to have a forum on clarinet care and feeding questions. We often go around the barn chasing our own tails with opinions, practical and analytical experimentation, myths, etc. and discuss the same topics sometimes ad nausium without the one resolute piece of the puzzle - the manufacturer's reccommendations. Could we get their experts (or probably hired guns) and professional repair persons, professional musicians, lay players, etc. at the same table and ask the hard questions?? Would this work? Would this be of interest to people?

I think it would be real interesting. From two perspectives 1) To see what their reasoning is as to why oil impregnation is used assuming usage for new horns, and 2) see what they say about older horns. I think you'll find that they probably really don't know as they probably have not done any long term environmental lab type tests.

If they are cowtowing (sp?) to the accountants will there be much honesty, especially if the opposition is present.

A GREAT proposal, LOH, and Mark, and appropriate caveat, G NZ. Hopefully we playing-semi-perfectionists may be able to produce technical movement in the woodwind industry toward further-improved clarinets and the information there-of, maybe even some uniformity among the various manufacturers. We would be quite interested in attending the Stockholm [if still competent!], and our combined voice just might be heard and recieved!! Comments? Don
