Can anyone tell me about the Buffet Jazz Festival Clarinet. I have just purchased one second hand and found it to have a wonderful clean, crisp sound. Does anyone of note play one?

I've not heard of a "Jazz Festival", just "Festival". Can you give more info (serial number, etc.)?

The Festival is a great clarinet. It has a big, full sound. As Mark said, it's not a "jazz" festival--although it could easily be a jazz clarinet. I've played quite a bit of jazz on mine and it really fills the room with its sound. Even my conductor has commented on the "nice great big tone" it gets.

Sounds like you got a good one. How old is it? The Festival is relatively new on the Buffet line-up.

Mark & Brenda,
Up until just a few years ago Buffet made a "Jazz Festival" clarinet, model number 1137. Its main distinguishing characteristics were that all of the body rings were carbon fiber similar to the Elite, except for the middle tenon ring which was metal. It did not have a left Eb lever.

The serial number is 385105. I have already searched the Buffet page and it tells me that the instrument was manufactured in 1994. Peter, do you know anything else about this instrument?
Thanks for your help everyone.

Hi Alyson,
Most of the time I don't respond on the bulletin board to questions I fully know the answer to. The reason is that quite often people offer an opinion rather than offer fact and the person making the inquiry to begin with can't logically discern opinions from facts. I could not resist today though. Obviously if you own a Buffet "Jazz Festival" which as you and I know has "Jazz Festival" inscribed on the bell and upper joint, it must exist. If someone is offering a guess that the model does not exist they should state that it is a guess and not accuse you of being mistaken! At least Mark offered that he had never heard of it, but was willing to investigate further for you. Therefore I usually will email the person asking the question directly with the correct answer rather than add the truth to the equation, which probably won't be recognized anyway. It was not possible to email you directly so if you would like some more info please email me and I will give you what I can.
Kindest Regards,
Peter

Yes, I knew of the "Jazz Festival" model made about 10 years ago or so and once asked the Buffet reps at the NAMM show what the difference was from the "Festival" model. Of several reps, none knew the difference.

Well, as I quite readily admitted, I have learned something new. I didn't know there was such a thing as the Jazz Festival. It's good to know in case I run across one.
