 Old clarinet

I have an old wood clarinet (circa 1950) which I purchased thru a Post Exchange in the Panama Canal Zone and have no idea of its current value, or whether or not the parent company is still in business. It is a MONOPOLE manufactured by CONSERVATOIRES COUESNON.S.A PARIS. I have shown this instrument to various dealers and they are amazed at the condition of the pads and corks etc., in such an old instrument. Each part has the serial number 19394 with the exception of the bell which is marked 19393. It also has an extra tuning barrel (shorter) without a serial number. I am very curious about this clarinet and would appreciate any information available.

This is a top-of-the-line clarinet --- I just restored a very similar Couesnon "Monopole" for myself, mine also has two barrels. Very well made instruments (Couesnon's top saxes and brasses were also labelled "Monopole" and are also excellent). Not much info that I've been able to dig up, but you definitely have a keeper! Funny about the serial numbers, on my clarinet the number on the bell matches the numbers on the two body joints, but one of my barrels has a serial number which is slightly different, and the second barrel has no number at all, but is clearly a Couesnon barrel based on the design of the two end-rings.

I have just overhauled a similar Cuesnon from the 60's which was a German (reformed) boehm with a largely cylindrical bore and a roller from F(C) to Ab(Eb) and solid German silver keywork.

Good horn nice tone nice mountings. The value is of course relative but the replacement of a similar quality would be a professional level wooden clarinet at least an RC.
