Every year, this time of year, I become extremely frustrated with Vandoren Reeds. This year I've decided to do something about it. I'm wondering if anyone can give me a personal comparison between between Vandoren V12 and Rico Grand Concert (Traditional, Think Blank, or Evolution). I've not tried any of these--due to a long-standing stigma unfairly placed on Rico by some of my former clarinet teachers--and am interested to hear what people have to say about these reeds.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Gary

Im very upset with Vandoren V-12's too! (I play 4's) It appears that they are making the tip more wide on some of their reeds, like a german-cut reed. My teacher pointed this out to me and I've begun to notice that their sound isnt as good. Normally the french cut reeds are more round at the tip, but no Vandoren has to be stupid. Does anyone else notice this, or is it just my my teach and her finace'??

Why not try Alexander Classic? V12 is a copy of MORRE reed.
Alexander Classic is also a copy of MORRE but improved and made of genuine
Var cane. They are expensive but last very long and do not need reed adjustment.

I haven't tried them yet, but htats cuase i can't get ahold of some. Anyways, I got real sick of the V12s at the beginning of the summer so now I'm hooked on tBlack master reeds, in the black box, I love the smooth liquidy sound that you get with it and a gregsmith and a regular luyben ligature.

I play 6 of them by rotation, they work at least 6 months. In this case, rotation also may be working good effect since every reed is used after 5 dormant(so to speak) days.

I guess it must be that time of the year... two weeks ago I decided I was fed up with my V-12s and went down to the music store intending to buy a pack of Evolutions to try, but since they didn't have any I bought the Traditional. Havining prior (horrible) experience with Rico reeds, I was very skeptical, but the results were surprising...
The GCs are much more even throughout the different registers (including altissimo), and (this may just be me) the throat Bb sounds beautiful; the V-12s have a much richer sound in the chalameau range though (IMHO).
Still, call me crazy, I like my V-12s better... when you find a good one, it's worth all the hassle.
