church organist/ music director (a speciality all of its own with its own school, Westminster Choir College here in New Jersey. Once an independent college, this is now part of Rider U. outside of Trenton.)

...roving theme park performer (combo), house band - night club(?), back up to 'star' performer (core group), supplemental weekend dance combo, cruise ship(s), military, Hollywood (movie) studios, chamber groups (art gallery/museum). No one mentions much around here the possibilities in 'country' music. I've played many a gig on tenor sax/clarinet with very positive response(s).

In the 'olden days', if you belonged to the musician's union you were paid a token amount for local symphony, community band. Times have changed, I guess, but I have a problem with, I'll pay you to let me perform. No, thanks. I've played many a time for the fun of it (plus sandwiches and beer) but I've yet to pay 'them' for the priviledge. I don't do that.

Mentioning fun things, you might consider personal 'feel good' opportunities: convalescent facility, hospital, fund raiser, church, children's receiving home, Sneezy webmaster - Oops! sorry, that one's already taken! :) :) or in the park, mall or just for the love of it somewhere where you won't obstruct traffic.

Music store/ repair facility: night janitor, clerk, sales, management, proprietor....

I'm sure the list could grow a mile, depending on your creativity and determination.

Waiter, telemarketer, guidance counsellor, QVC pitchman...

Are you nuts?
Have you any idea of the odds AGAINST making a living with music?

Even the best players, on instruments with an orchestral or session demand, work two and three jobs just to pay the bills.

You could, of course, achieve celebrity in something else first.

Lookit Shaq, Kobie, John Tesch...

Best to develop a parallel interest whilst pursuing your music study.

Mozart died broke, remember?

There are hundreds of musicians who earn a living here in NJ every day, they're called public school teachers. Teaching is the one somewhat sure way of making a living at this.
