First of all, get your copy of Rubank Advanced Clarinet volume 1.
Ok note i am playing these on bass.
Ok turn to pg. 20. On that etude i am playing bottom line, all no repeats. I marked breath marks on (i am not counting beginning as measure.) Measure 4, beat 3, the fist measure after the repeat, measure 4 after repeat beat 2, right after next repeat sign, measure 4 beat 2 after repeat sign. (confusing isn't it.)
Is the phrasing ok there?
next etude pg. 34 bottom line all. I do not have phrasing for this so please help me decide.
Thanks...
Ted

Ted - some tips I give to my students on combatting nervousness:
1. Realize that we all (even seasoned pros) get a little anxious before a big performance, as we have the feeling of being 'judged' and want to play our best.
2. Don't do a lot of practicing on the day of the performance, as small errors will add to your anxiousness.
3. Arrive at the site early enough to be comfortable and not feel rushed.
4. Do a "mock" performance in front of anyone you can find (family members, relatives, friends, etc...) The more of these that you do, the more confidence it will give you on the "real" day.
5. DON"T EXPECT MIRACLES ON THE PERFORMANCE DAY. If you can't consistantly play something before the performance, chance are you won't play it correctly on the big day.
6. Try to have fun...I know easier said than done... but you are conveying a musical thought through your instrument. Your instrument is your voice...remember that as you play... Good Luck...

The best thing that you can do with this piece (pg. 20) is to breathe only at the repeat signs. If you need to breathe more..... breathe on meas. 4 right before beat 3. after the first repeat sign, breathe on meas. 4 right before beat 3......after the next repeat sign breathe at meas. 4 right before beat 3. now I am not including the pick ups as measures.
Pg. 34----- breathe ar the rests.....after measure 16 (not counting the pick up at the beginning) you don't have any more rests so I would then breathe between meas. 20 and 21 on the bar line. and then if you need to you can breathe on the rest in the 3rd to the last measure.
I hope this helps you and good luck.
Mindy

Good Luck there pal!! My all state audition is October 10th, the music is C Rose (32 etudes) numbers 15 and 26. They arent impossible, but practice makes perfect. Im also verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry nervous, ive been working my butt off at clarinet recently, and im afraid i may disapppoint myself. But relax, just play your best. And dont lose anysleep. it just makes matters worse
