 Mozarts clarinet concerto?
Author: Vivi

Hi!
Anybody knows if there is anywhere on the net where you can download Mozarts clarinet concerto in A major for free? Or any site where you can order the notes (on paper, not download) cheap?

I went to sheetmusic.com (at the top of this page) and looked for it a few days ago. They have several options for around $10. I don't know which to order, the part for an A clarinet or for the Bb. Greg Smith suggested the Bb part. From his response I think he feels it will be in the key of C with a piano accompaniment transposed.

Does anyone know what key these parts are in? I assume the A clarinet part will be in C and easier to play than the Bb part (which I figure should be in B). If the Bb part is also in C (not transposed from the original) it would be my choice ... about $1 chaeper and 1/4 the delivery time.

Has anyone ordered these parts?

Thanks, Terry

I have the version in B-flat. It is in the key of C(first movement, notes are g - e - f -a -g-f-e).

Just to clarify, the notes I provided are the notes you would finger on the B-flat instrument, not the notes they sound in the key of C.

Terry- In the B flat version, the clarinet part is in C and the piano in B flat. In the A clarinet version, the clarinet is still in C and the piano in A. So the clarinet part remains the same in either version, it's the piano part that changes. If you have an A clarinet available, get the A version. Your pianist will thank you- the A version is a lot easier for them (though either is a vacation compared to the Weber Grand Duo or anything by Brahms or Copland). Also, the concerto sounds better on an A clarinet because of its darker tone quality. And Sheet Music Plus is extremely slow...order from Luyben or Eble, it's a lot faster (though you don't support Sneezy then).

Vivi- get the Schirmer or Fischer edition of the Mozart (they're the least expensive), I'm not sure how you define cheap but it's worth every penny. You'll play this piece as long as you play the clarinet.

Micaela,

So it really doesn't matter which I get. If I can learn it fast (and well) enough I will audition to do it with our orchestra on my A clarinet. So it doesn't matter which one I get since I only need the clarinet part. (I assume it will be similar to the orchestral version).

I bought a Robert Marcellus perforamance CD of the Mozart today and it is quite nice. It was sure familiar, so I looked around and found I had a couple of other CD's with it on there... but just the adaggio movement. Even if I never play it this is still a nice thing to have and to listen to.

Thanks all, Terry

TERRY,

I've been looking for Marcellus on CD and have not found him. Where did you get the CD? I have the k622 concerto by Stoltzman.........might compare the two.

Also, since some folks (including my former teacher) think that Morales is so great (and I have no oppinion because I've not heard him) why is it that I cannot find anything on CD by him. I've checked locally and on-line (including Frog - as someone suggested), and nada. Did he record anything? If not, how did so many people hear him play? Concert?

I hear him often by listening to the Met Opera broadcasts during the opera season.

Jerry....The Marcellus CD is on Sony Classics #62424. It is coupled with the 2 Mozart Flute Concerti K.313 and K.314. I know for a fact that Amazon has it in stock (They say shipping in 1 day), and I think they also have a used copy for sale as well...

That is right. Mine was in the little computer listing at the CD store. Sony Essential Classics SBK 62 424. Once I located it in the computer they put out for the public they did a search on 62424 in the shop computer and it popped right up. It was about $10, Greg Smith said it is so cheap because it is a re-issue due to it's popularity.

It took one day to have it shipped out to Grass Valley.

Hi,
I found you a "free" download. Free if you are a member to the tune of $30, or only about $4 if you are not. $4 is almost free and about 1/2 the cost of buying a hard copy and then paying for shipping.

I hope this helps, just click on the link.
