 Concerto VS. Opus
Author: Carmen Izzo

Why? Leblanc sure likes to use us as their marketing pawns. The only reason they say the Opus has more acoustical advantages is so they can sell their flagship model. Do not be fooled by this B.S. about the Concerto having less dircet tone, or more flexibility. They are made from the same bore model!!!! Everything is identical in them. I know, one of my instructors has seen them be made in france!!! Now, I'm sure that some of you played both instruments and have found differences. Answer me this, when you go to the factory or retailer to try out new horns you try many of the same model, and you see the minor differences in between individual horns. Well, those differences are the things you are experienceing when you play an Opus and then a Concerto and see that they arent identical. YOU have to belive me on this. The Professional Clarinetists I know who play Leblanc ( i will leave them anonymous because i respect them as friends an teachers) are very prestigious and their word should be regarded as such, for they have seen the identical construction of the two horn models. i am finished for today.

Old news. It's been discussed here many times. You might want to do a search and see what's gone on before your current post.

Carmen,

I think you might want to check some things before you call Mark a punk! Mark is the webmaster here and hosts the BBoard so that people like you and me can use it as a resource and for enjoyment.

The differences between the Opus and Concerto have been discussed many times on the board, and very thouroughly. You can find much information, then if you have a specific topic that hasn't been covered, ask that question specifically.

Check your attitude at the browser please!

Carmen,
Dave Suber of LeBlanc is very open about letting dealers, directors, and clarinettists alike know that the Concerto and Opus have the same bore design. Lighten up on the remarks while you're at it. We "sneezers"are proud of the way Mark runs this BB.

So, Mark, do you have body piercings and tatoos? :)

I'm not getting into the Opus vs. Concerto thing again, I used all my energy in a post a couple of months back.

I'll just say this--I never played a Concerto that sounded like an Opus and I've owned and played dozens of both. Sold a couple of Opuses last year (one to a Sneezite) and play-tested dozens more. To me, they don't sound the same.

Try them and see what you think. Don't go by the ad hype.

Oo, JOY the kiddies are back.

So, anybody else wondering what they teach them at camp "Lord of the Flies"?

It's a wonder we don't start eating our young.

Self-serving, sanctimonious, salacious and sh** for brains. G

Great combination, innit.

HAAHAAAA, It appears that I am victorius in corrupting this site of all of us clarinets players. Such emotions that comes out of us! Perhaps, one day I shall meet you all in person. But what better way to be known by fellow clarinet players than the young upstart who makes your clarinetistic web site a rucus filled brawl.

Dave surber is a very nice man, and helped me try me Concerto!!

Mark-I think 47 isn't quite past the punk phase.

I think I'm going to make a sign and hold on it on the freeway that says "Will Play Polka For An Opus"

Carmen, get a life. Why would you want to come to this perfectly harmonious community (pun SO intended :) ) and stir up a bunch of crap over something that WE all know ANYWAY and don't REALLY care all that much about...grow up, kid, or you will NEVER make it in this business. Never.

Anji, I think you should have your own TV show :)

Ladies. gentlemen. please. I am new to this community, and I see the topic I was about to address is thrown away and beaten up. If thats the way you treat newcomers to this website, I am disappointed. Really, the young chap brings up a topic that all new clarinet buyers should know. If anything, you my friends should learn to grow up. All of you, from trying to stir up trouble to those destroying young players hopes and dreams.

It should take more than a few bulletin board posts to destroy someone's dream.

The solution has already been mentioned. Do a search of this board and you will find lots on the subject. Also try the Karinette archieves.

I just bought a new instrument and was very impressed with all the help I received from the fine people here on this board.

Anyone who buys an instrument on the word of another without trying the instrument is not doing a very good job of instrument selection.

Play lots of instruments and then decide which one you like. All the major manufactures make nice instruments. Just pick one you like and work, work, and work.
