I have lots of experience with LaVoz reeds, horrible for higher pitched insturments (Soprano Clarinet, Alto Clarinet, Alto Sax, etc), wonderful for bass insturments (Tenor Sax, Bass Clarinet, Bari Sax, etc).

I echo Robert's opinion. LaVoz is excellent for basses and contraltos, but try them on sopranos and you will eventually get fed up with them.

Another plus side is that they're common, and around here at least they're cheap.

I used LaVozes when I came back to playing Bb after a 5-year hiatus. They were nice for that purpose. However, they go soft really fast. I've moved on....

they do go soft after a short while...but they sound good on lower pitched instruments...i used them on bass clarinet for about 3 years (use vandorens now). And yes, theyre cheap around here too. I used them on Bb for awhile too, until I tried vandorens. Now I'll never go back to LaVozes...

I used them for a year or so when I had just begun, they're good enough for beginners- better than plain Ricos.

Is it true that a lot of jazz players (clarinet and sax) use LaVozs?

It would make sense. LaVoz has that reedy-jazzy sound; I should know. I always sounded more like a soprano sax than a clarinet when I used them.

Thog say: "Lavoz good for jazz, not so good for classical".
