York, J.W. BI fl Grand Rapids / MI 1882-1940.
1882 established by James Warren York (b Exeter / NH 24 November 1839; d Los Angeles 9 February 1927), earlier a musician working for BOSTON MUSICAL INSTRUMENT MANUFACTORY, together with his brother as music store and MI importers: 1885 opened factory; assisted for one year by the trombonist HOLTON as 'York & Holton'; from cl900 joined by his sons Frank W. and Charles York, now as 'J. W. York & Sons'; 1914-16 E.A. COUTURIER served as consulting artist: 1926/27 as `York Band Instrument Co.' after buy-out from family, the foreman Alfred J. ('Bill') Johnson becoming part proprietor; 1940 the company sold to Carl FISCHER. Until c1917 specialising in cornet, trombone. See also GETZEN.

Thanks Mark, I'm always interested in York info. An interesting York information source is http://web.calstatela.edu/faculty/jswain/brass/ , it has lots of information, and a place to contribute information that anyone might have about a York instrument.
"See also Getzen." ? What relationship existed there?
