volume reed

i picked up a couple of pete fountain reeds at the fest and do they put out the volume. The box says Marca-Pete fountain 2 1/2. You may want to give them a blow.

I was given a fist full of those Marca/ Pete Fountain reeds and was in reed heaven. So far I have ten of them going and not one dud among them!

My friend, (a musician and long time sound engineer) who I was staying with at the fest remarked favorably about the reeds also. Poor guy had to listen to me practice for a few days.

I like high end- and he thought they sounded better than my other reeds. (V12's) I thought that they were brighter sounding but my friend said that the sound was "fuller".

I am not optimistic about their longevity but will reserve judgment for a batch that I break in properly. (I just started playing them right away at the fest.)

Has anyone else tried them? What did you think?

joevacc et al, do these Marca/ Pete Fountain reeds come in Bass Clarinet or Tenor Sax sizes? Haven't seen any around "Westnavel" Iowa?
