 My life plan
Author: Ted Donaldson

Crazy dreams, but tell me how it sounds.

Community College
To get math, science, LA, SS out of the way.

Indiana University
Masters in Instrument repair

Some French college
Doctorate in Instrument making

Tell me if i should double major in clarinet for indiana. (I live in florida, i have heard good things about their instrument repair classes.)

I am only in 7th grade, but i should plan ahead lol. (no i am not a 2nd year player, i have been playing since 3rd grade, and currently on bass clarinet)

It's good thinking ahead, esp. at 7th grade. (I'm an upper-classman in high school.)

I like your ideas. But why some French college? Why not Austria or Germany?

Here's mine:
1) Middle Tennessee State University OR NC School of the Arts, majoring in musical compositioning (Or engineering if I suddenly realize that I nedd money.) There I get my Masters.
2) Juliard (Now I'm definitely NOT being realistic, but I'm dreaming) to get my Doctorate
3) Either work for film scoring or study in Vienna

Planning is good, just remember - plans change. When I was in 7th grade I was dead set on going to the University of Pennsylvania to become a veterinarian. Now I've more or less decided on print journalism and photography at Rutgers - NB. Quite the departure, I'd say..

Ted..... What school are you going to? Sanford or Millennium? I live in Florida and I see that you live in Sanford (from your ISP)!! I went to Millennium and now I am going to Seminole High. Your plans I guess are good if you like them then they are good. I want to go to Stetson University and major in Music Education cause I want to be a band director :) hhehee then I might want to get my masters but I don't know what school I would want to go to.

I went to college the first time as a Pre Vet Med major. Half way thru my junior year, when I already knew that I couldn't into vet school because I didn't have straight A's, nor enough experience in the field, I found out that it wasn't really a major I could get a degree in. Since I'd taken the wrong physics and not enough calculus, I didn't want to dink around with getting a biology degree, so I made my minor into a major and graduated from the U of MN with a History BA. Scary thing was, I could have gone to medical school with my grades...

Now, several years later, I'm back in school, as a Vet Tech student. This time in school, it's a lot easier, although tiring to work full time and take classes 3-4 nights/week. Obviously, this was when and where I was supposed to be :)

So anyway, my advice is to learn how to study well. I had it way too easy in high school and discovered my study habits didn't cut it in college. It took 3 years of struggling to figure out how I should have been studying all along. That method is doing wonders for me now!

Good luck!

When I was in the 7th grade I wanted to be either a brain surgeon or a politician. Now I can see how the two could work together quite nicely! I think there are probably a few politicans who could benefit from some brain alterations.

Seriously though--my compliments to you for thinking so far ahead. It is time to begin to formulate your plans for college and take classes now that will help you in that direction. Keep good grades now and when you get in high school because that will determine what kind of college or university you will be able to enter.

Hope to hear from you when you've accomplished your goals.
