Hello...
I'm curruntly 16 and I heard a piece a few days ago which consists many modern techniques. I'm especially wondering that how can I play a bent note from C to upper C.. it sounds like almost a string.. I just want to know how can I play the bent note....I'm not sure that it only require a different embouchure or special fingering....I would really appriciate if you answer me....thank you...

I believe you're talking about a glissando... I sure wish *I* could do it so I could help... you can search this message board for it; many people have discussed the technique. Have fun & good clarinetting!

Ther's a lot of loose-to-tight embouchure and half-holing. Unfortunately, I cannot do more than the high A to high C

Won -

This topic comes up frequently, usually about the opening glissando in Rhapsody in Blue. See the following threads:

Hi...thank you very much for those who answered or replyed to my question... I mostly followed Ken's instruction and it helped me to bend a note down. I could bend down A to around E after following the instruction. But the relaxing embouchure method didn't work for bent a note up... I'm not a very good or serious player so maybe I did something wrong but it didn't work for me... However I uploaded 2 wav files that I played so you may correct what's wrong with them...and I don't think I did it right. the address is

I combined the embouchure method and finger slid method for benting down
and I just slide (almost scratched) my fingers for benting up...

I think it is going to be better if I play more and more.....My private instructor is still telling me my basic embouchure is really bad...and I'm playing the glissando and multiphnics just for fun...Thank you...

And the piece that I listened is called CARNYX... I don't like it very much because I don't think it's very musical...but it is indeed a really amazing piece..if you want to listen it go to
