I was a good to very good high school and college player. I am now an instrument collector and occasional player (community theater, etc.). I want to buy a full boehm.
Fortunately, money is not the issue (PLEASE don't flame me for saying that. I have been lucky, life has been good, and I am grateful). I am torn between older FB's I have seen and the possibility of getting a new Buffet or Selmer or LeBlanc. Should I bite the bullet and buy the new one or am I wasting money? Are the intonation issues that important on 50 year old horns?

Ken, the issue I would be worried about is how _much_ (often?) I would be using the FB a year from now. I don't know how much I could incorporate a FB into my thinking -- as a collector it would be nice --- but buying brand new clarinets isn't generally the way I have collected. I recognize MY bad habits more & more < not fingering - I avoid sliding where possible! : ) > .... my bad habit is buying something INTENT on using it & well you know the rest of the story ! best, mw

My LL has full Boehm keywork except for the low Eb. I find the articulated G#/C#, forked Bb/Eb, and left hand Eb/Ab key very useful and would never go back to the plain Boehm system. I've played this horn steadily for two years with no adjustment problems other than cork wearing out. If I was in the market for a FB I would probably get a brand new one unless I came across a used Leblanc, Selmer, or Buffet in pristine condition.

If money is not the issue, why not obtain horns only limited people have? I would suggest hand made FB clarinets of these two.
1)Rossi. They has English, French, American, and another(fogot the name) FBs.
All of them one piece design. Designed by inspiration playing the Koktans used by Leopord Uragh of Vienna.
2)Peter Eaton: two kinds FBs.
Rossi and Eaton are run by Mrs. Rossi and Eaton themselves. May become future collector items after they decease.
