I decided to finish putting together my new clarinet set-up by contacting Sneezy sponsors for help. I called Guy Chaddish and Greg Smith for help on barrels and mouthpieces for my 1925 FB Buffet Crampon Bb. Greg was tied up with the fest so he said I would have to wait to get sample mouthpieces. Well he must have sent them out the instant he got home because they got here today.
I have never been able to sit in a music store and trial 5 good mouthpieces. He sent out 5: 3 chedeville's, a Cicero Kaspar and an Cicago Kaspar style. I have always wondered why folks like these mouthpieces. For me I now see that they have a slightly better sound and play a little easier... with the right reed. One of the set really had a mellower, darker sound than the rest and played just as freely; it is a Greg Smith Chedville style 1+. I don't know what all that means, and I don't care as long as the horn sounds as nice as it does now. Also like majic the horn plays in tune within 2 cents throughout the whole horn (except for the low Eb), it is amazing!
The clarinet is a pre-polycylindrical bore and so is quite different from the normal clarinet in use now. Just by describing the horn to the Sneezy vendors they knew just what the horn needed. For fun I tried the parts out on one of my polycylindrical Buffets and they just don't work well.
Not only is this site very helpful, but the sponsors are great. I was sure to tell them I heard of them here. I guess that is good policy if we want them to keep up the support!
I now can't wait for this semester's first orchestra rehersal on Thursday. Since we will have a new conductor he won't know what an improvement my sound has made with this horn, I won't let on there is anything different going on either.

I also have a Smith "Chedaville" 1* that plays very well, although I find it more dificult to "project" through a large ensemble and opt to use my original Kasper #14 for "loud" symphony gigs. I use the Smith for ww quintet and solo work. Helps keep VanDoren in business as I need a complete set of reeds for each mp set-up. Just thought I'd say "Hi" and wish you lots of Good Clarineting. (Don't we play the greatest instruments EVER!!!!!)
