Hello
I have been experiencing some articulation problems and your assistance would be much appreciated. This is the difficulty. I experience, only in the upper register say from g to c, a kind of squawk to the sound or almost a Gershwin type scoop when I try and articulate. Any suggestions? This is rather vague and if i can do anything to make the problem any clearer please let me know.

Raise your tounge higher in your mouth, and only move the tip of your tounge to articulate. I have a feeling that tounge position could be the culprit as long as your instrument is in good working condition.

This squawk sometimes results from moving the jaw while tonguing. This typically does not cause a problem on lower notes but does cause problems starting with about the G at the top of the staff. Many people do this without realizing it. So check for this problem. Then work to eliminate any jaw movement. Only the tongue should move.

One other thing to check is your throat.
It might get tight as you go up the scale and also can produce little squawks.
My advice is for you to really try to visualize your throat, lips, jaw, tongue configuration while you play with no articulation at all. Then try to keep the exact same configuration with only the tip of the tongue moving when tonguing.
Use a mirror to check that your embouchure is properly in place.
Practice this exercise very very slow and also try to move your fingers ahead of your tongue. You can exagerate, by putting the tongue on the reed on the beat moving the fingers on the offbeat, realease the tongue on the beat, etc...

hello
thanks for your help i think that i have the problem pin pointed. there is a bit(well a lot) of resistance in my Bb and as i go higher it kind of forces the air to back up and pushes my tongue back. Ah the problem is found now to fix it. thanks for the posts they have helped me a great deal.
