just wondering if there are any web pages out there that teach these. Anyone that knows any, feel free to write them, also. I heard Eddie is a concert, and he played some. I've never heard any, so now i'm on this kick.

Dear Brian G,
When you wrote "Eddie" did you mean Eddie Daniels? The masters of clarinet multiphonics that I've heard are Eric P Mandat (prof. at Southern IL. U) and the world renowned Peter Brotzman. Also on clar. or bass clar. are Ken Vandermark and Mats Gustafson, who make their horns sound like alien machines. These guys are true pioneers of sound, depite their lack of attention from the "clarinet world". Mandat is hard to find, but if you email him, you can order his CD. He also sells the written compositions with all different fingerings. I know a bunch myself, write back and I'll try to tell you them. First- try playing any low note, then loosen and drop your jaw till the tone splits. Giora Feidman opens his CD "Israel" with a multiphonic based on low E, it sounds like a lot like a shofar (shell). I'd love to talk more, drop me a line, peace, Stuart

Also, Philip Rehfeldt's book "New Directions for Clarinet" has a host of multiphonic fingerings from Mandat & W. O. Smoth.

a good book for beginning exploration in multiphonics is Ron Caravan's "Preliminary Exercises & Etudes in Contemporary Techniques for Clarinet". A good compliment to that is Gerald Farmer's "Multiphonics and Other Contemporary Clarinet Techniques".
