Source of parts other than IMSLP?
Author: m1964

Hi,
Can anyone suggest any other resource for orchestral parts besides IMSLP?

In particular, looking for Mendelssohn 3rd symphony clarinet and viola parts. IMSLP has those but the quality is not great.
Thanks

There's OMCDRL (Orchestra Musicians' CD ROM Library). Much more consistently clean scans of standard parts. However, not free.

Also, Clarinet Institute's series of CDs. Some have orchestra parts (the Mendelssohn 3rd is on Volume 1). Also, not free, but you get a lot of music on each CD for a low price. Not a source of viola parts, but there may be an equivalent viola site online.

Only problem with either is that you need a CD-ROM on your computer to read the files. I use an external CD drive because none of the computers I've bought in the past several years have come with internal ones.

External CD players are dirt cheap. Less than $20 on Amazon.

You may be able to borrow score and parts through your local public library.

Look at worldcat.org for the music you seek and what college, university or even large public library has it. Then check w. your library to see whether they can borrow it for you.

I'm not sure what the problem is with the imslp clarinet part. The viola part had lots of divisi passages which aren't always easy to read. Perhaps this might be of help https://www.lucksmusic.com/CatalogSymph.aspx?Detail=Y&ItemCode=13354

By the way, if you need transposed parts, (D trumpets xposed for Bb trumpets, G horns xposed to F horns, e.g, and A or D or C clarinets for Bb clarinets, search on Transpositions Into Modern Day Keys & Clefs which will take you to Luck's Transposed Parts listing.
