Hello, a while back I was considering buying an Altieri case, then two things happened. I remembered i had a roomie duffel with room for my instrument stand, and music bag. Then I started playing B-flat soprano again.
I am now back on bass and the duffel bag takes a little effort to get everything in and balanced correct correctly. I like the design, but
I realize the problem with the Altiera pack is I probably would not have room for my music bag and my instrument stand unless there was an easy way to attach it to the outside. So I’m asking for some input.
Does anyone have an altiera case? How feasible is it to strap a stand and music bag on the back?
Is anybody here using a small hand truck? It looks like the best place to buy one is from Home Depot, but they are all online orders so it’s rely on pictures and reviewed. I’ve read the reviews and have eliminated the inferior ones. Any recommendations on which foldable to get or where I could get one?

The Altiera appears to be a gig bag. I wouldn't advise strapping anything to it as that would likely damage the instrument inside. I recommend you put your music in a backpack and buy a compact, folding music stand. I don't see a need for a hand truck for just one instrument, stand and music. You may also want to consider scanning your music and using a tablet rather than carry a lot of paper.

Unless you have serious back problems I think a cart is a bit too much. I know some players who use them, often when they need to bring two or three saxophones, sometimes including a baritone.
I have mild back issues and I use a backpack style case. I would never want to carry the bass clarinet case like a suitcase for more than a couple of minutes even if I can...
What case and setup I use varies and depends on the specific situation.

I probably should have given a little more info.
Yes. I do have a messed up lower back, which seems to be more negatively affected by carrying items by hand than by a backpack. The stand I refer to is the somewhat heavy Hercules stand for the instrument, a lot bulkier than a portable music stand. My music bag has several items in it, glasses,water bottle, stand light, etc. I probably should be working on reducing its bulk.
I can get of this all in my backpack duffle, and would probably be content to keep doing it except for two concerns: First my knowledgable wife warns me that hoisting the pack up could cause further pain or problems (she tells me my CT scan shows a lot of degeneration). She’s the one urging me to get a small sturdy hand truck. Second, arranging everything to fit in that duffle bag takes time, especially at the end of rehearsal. (The stock Giardinelli case is very bulky.) That’s why the idea of a dedicated backpack case seems appealing, but it looks like that won’t work out.
So I’ve reached a compromise: Although I’m not fond of the hand cart idea, others in my band are using them (tenor sax and larger), and I’ve decided to give it a try. They can fold up quite small and carry much more weight than I need, and are fairly inexpensive. I also plan to alternate with my backpack duffle when my back is doing well. I like this option the best, but it will be good to have the cart to fall back on when needed.
