In my kitchen yesterday, while warming up my sound, meandering my way upward through different registers, a smallish grayish-brown spider suddenly dropped from the ceiling on a strand of web and hung suspended right at the level of my face, directly in front of my chair about a meter away. I continued wamup for a minute or so longer, watching it; the spider stayed where it was. At a reasonable stopping point I stood, reached up with one hand and interrupted the strand of web, and carried it and the dependent spider out the front door. I lowered the spider to the ground and brushed the web off my hand. The spider crawled off; I went back inside and resumed practice.

Were you practicing "le Festin de l'Araignée" by Albert Rousel?

Perhaps it would have been a good moment to play "Boris the Spider."
