Gordon Jenkins was an American arranger that worked with Sinatra, Ella Fitgerald...all the greats. I would rank him close behind Nelson Riddle in terms of talent. Like Nelson Riddle, he also composed Classical pieces. The Classical works of neither of these masters are seldom -if ever- played. There is no recording of Jenkin's Clarinet Concerto on YouTube. He wrote it for Benny Goodman, who never recorded it. Jenkins wrote a version for clarinet and piano.
Has anybody out there heard or played it? It seems to exist in a couple of US libraries.

The orchestration by Gordon Jenkins of Sinatra's singing of: "It Was a Very Good Year" is mesmerizing!

Hi Ruben,
Thanks for bringing up Gordon Jenkins. Your post prompted me to go look up his discography again - I had forgotten how many good tunes he wrote and arranged.

Hi Ruben,
Bruce Jenkins, son of Gordon Jenkins, is a sportswriter for the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper here. He has written about his father's music and might be able to help with your question. I think he can be reached at bjenkins@sfchronicle.com
