I received a teaser email from Mike Lowenstern yesterday referring to his comprehensive survey of many makes and models of clarinets that he subjected to testing, as covered on the board prior.

Rather than focus on the limitations of one person's reviews, as much as they exist, and as much as I think Mike did an awesome job trying to be as scientific and knowledgeable and unbiased in his reviews, and as much as the cynicism some might offer how the reviews are but mere sales tools for him.....
Mike's teaser subject matter line in the email was how he felt a $3K clarinet faired better than one of the $10K ones hew reviewed. Does anyone know which $3K clarinet he was referring to?
TIA

Sales of the Uebel line a new one for Mike. Perhaps he could be referring to the Advantage (available in an "A" clarinet as well). This one was always magical for me, and in fact better (subjectively speaking of course) than any the other Uebels I had tried (this was prior to the existence of the Zenit, but I would think I'd still hold that opinion).
just a guess

I love Uebel instruments. I play an Uebel basset horn (boehm system).
which Phillip Miechel, my teacher from Melbourne, recommended that I buy in 1982. I still have it and play it a lot as a soloist. I also owned an Uebel full Oehler system clarinet that I loved but sadly sold. I tried some of the new Uebel clarinets whilst in Melbourne in March (I know the agent there) and they are really lovely. I would recommend them very highly.
Great clarinets all round.
