Great for all clarinets and saxes. You may prefer the sound of others, however, such as the Luyben, Bonade, and Lurie. The Rovner is also inexpensive.

I use the Rovner Eddie Daniels version - with the plastic ribs on the inside and the metal plates that secure the reed at an angle. It gives me a great dark sound with enough control for better articulation. This model is much more expensive than the standard Rovner Darks and Lights, but I think it's been worth it.

Tried' them--don't like them. Seem to act as a "sound curtain," holding back the substance of the tone. Stuffy is a good word for Rovners. Much prefer the new VanDoren Optimum, my Winslows, or good Bonade.

Why is it that clarinet players in this forum get so excited about ligatures wheras on a sax forum they are hardly an issue. Sax players are largely content with standard metal strap ligatures.

Because, depending on the ligatures, they can greatly change the sound of a versatile instrument such as the clarinet. I have a Rovner Contralto ligature that made my playing sound MUCH better than with the metal ligatures. I was just wondering if the soprano ligatures would work just as well.

we sax players are even more senative about ligatures than you clarinet players. its just that sax mpcs are not all the same size (like clarinet mpcs) so we dont have as many choices. i assure you it does make a big difference with the right lig!

I use the BG Super Revelation and the new Varilig ligatures. I've used the Rovners and recommend them to students and returning players for great reed support.
