It is an older D. Bonade that has had the INSIDE of the front part (on an inverted design) cut out. Very, very neatly. This is the work of a jeweller or someone who really knows how to work with metals. Cut out even to each of the two (2) rails. Was very hard to detect because it caused most of the lettering to "disappear". Best, mw

I think Bob Crowley (Montreal Symphony) and some of his students have one of those. I guess it gives more flexibility, but I can't really hear a difference in the sound.

You can cut the metal almost invisibly with a fine hacksaw and round off the edges with a fine file.
I have been told that Robert Marcellus used an inverted Bonade ligature with the center portion cut out. I've never tried it.

This is probably why I saw Bob Crowley use it, he was one of Marcellus students. Of course he sounds great with it, but so does he with a Rovner lig, a BG lig, a Vandoren lig, ...

Ken, that confirms EXACTLY what I was told! This ligature came from an occasional Symphony musician. Was used with a nice Vandoren B-45 (for projection? --- probably). Thanks, Ken & Sylvain. mw
