'Cos I'm not laughing!
Who even came up with this absolutely ridiculous idea of taping up cracks? It does BUGGER ALL! Whoever you are and if you're reading this, you're a bloody idiot. If anyone reading this knows who they are, then pass on those sentiments. I don't care if they're hailed as some highly respected repairer or not, they're still a bloody idiot.
It offers NOTHING in the way of sealing a leak, nor offers anything of any structural merit. If anything, it will only make things worse when it comes to having the cracks repaired as the adhesive used on some tapes (especially some electrical insulation tapes) is nasty stuff which migrates and can end up contaminating the very surfaces that need to be bond to superglue which is the best type of glue to use on cracks.
Do everyone a favour and don't tape up ANY cracks nor do anything stupid like use wax, oil or cork grease to seal them, except take it straight in to be repaired and repaired properly. Don't make a relatively simple crack repair far worse than it already is, even though cracks are generally an inconvenience than terminal, even if they've gone right through to the bore.
As I've already said and will keep on saying, it does bugger all except doing more harm than good.

>> or cork grease <<
What about crack grease?
Do you the tape is some kind of advertised service and not a random DIY?
