I've got a fairly old Noblet Eb clarinet (circa 1983) that I'd like to upgrade with a better barrel. The current one I have is cracked and repaired, but not ideal. And it's pretty far out of tune.
However, I've checked out some aftermarket ones, and the tenon on my Eb is smaller than today's standard. Rough measurement for the bore is about 13mm. The barrel tenon socket is about 22mm.
I know adjusting the outside of a tenon is easy enough with thicker cork. But does anyone happen to know if a 13mm bore is close enough to what modern instruments use? I'm trying to avoid a big step in bore size between the two pieces.

Hi, at a bit of a guess your Noblet tenon lengths will shorter and the tenon's a different diameter.
I have/used Backun and Leblanc Opus barrels. Normally either I fill the internal space with a spacer or turn down a longer barrel. Opus barell's fit fine. I found the mouthpiece gained the best improvement.
Eb tuning is....
I found the greatest improvement was in the tone and currently use tulipwood.
Possible options are to find someone who does quality tuning/voicing e.g. Stephen fox.
I did the work on mine decades ago and you need to have a strong idea of what you want.
The Roncorp orchestral excerpt book provides alternate fingerings for some of the many problems that Eb presents, as you likely know, you pretty much have to come up with a new set of fingerings for the top register.

Most Eb clarinet bores are around 13mm, although barrel bores are typically wider and have a reverse taper.

That's good to know! Looks like just some really thick cork will make things dandy for me.
