The Clarinet BBoard

Numerous people seem to recommend Klose for practice. I know I used one many years ago, when I first learned to play the clarinet. Now that I'm "back :-)", I've tried to hunt a copy down...However, I can't remember what arrangement... a friend recently leant me one which I think is labelled either volume II or book II...
Do folks on this board prefer certain arrangements? why? Any thoughts on the least expensive place to purchase one?
I'm happy to use what I have for now, but it may be a little more advanced than what I need.
thanks in advance,
Susie

I recently purchased a used one on eBay that was quite reasonable and had been stored for years in unused condition. H. Klose Celebrated Method for the Clarinet, Revised and Enlarged by Simeon Bellison and published by Carl Fischer.
In searching the Barnes and Noble website (www.bn.com), I noticed they carry the same book. It has an orange cover. I can't remember the price, but it's there and in stock (as of a few weeks ago). You might try them.
I think it's a great book with a wide variety of skill levels and exercises to enhance your abilities.

I have and use one. It's great, just as Brenda describes. I have seen several around my local music stores lately and it's possible that if your local stores don't have it that they would order it for you. I have also seen it on the Boosey & Hawkes website. The going price is around $25. (At one time, way back when, you could buy the same thing as four volumes.)

At the risk of sounding like a heretic , I prefer Baermann Vol. 2&3.

I think I paid about 18.00 for mine on eBay. Look there and see if you can find one. Then look on the Barnes and Noble website and see what their price is--they usually discount their stuff if you buy online.

Thank you all...
I don't know that I would have considered ebay as a place to look.
Amazon also now has a way to buy used books/CD's so that might also be an option. I just bought a "used" CD through them which came from zmarketplace@spun.com.....Aria's with Richard Stoltzman and the Slovak Philharmonia Orchestra... It really looks like it's never been opened and it was half the price of the new CD....

Bought Klose Vol. 2 from eBay and now am getting the entire volume (postage included) through half.com for $11!
Scared me half to death when I opened the book, but I realize now it's about starting SLOWLY and working my way up the metronome. Think Klose will keep me busy for the rest of my life.

I bought the Klose ( I think it's the entire one... orange cover ??) from Barnes and Noble for $19 this morning. I was actually buying 2 items so they didn't charge me postage and, for NC, they don't charge sales tax, so it seemed to be a good deal... thank you for the Barnes and Noble suggestion Brenda.

I actually bought mine at Jim's Music Store here in Irvine, CA about 5 years ago. I think I bought it for about $25, but at least I've still got it.
This book is huge, and I love the scale exercises mid-way through.

Susie, yes the orange cover is the complete deal. And, I've found good buys at Barnes and Noble online as well. Sounds like a happy ending to your search.

Thanks to good advice I got from this bulletin board (as usual) I'm working through the mechanical exercises in Klose. They looked daunting, but I've find they really help in developing faster and more accurate fingering.

Recently dug out my old copy of H. Klose. (Contains both parts.) It has a grey cover and shows the price as $10.00. (I must be getting old.) Pretty hefty tome too. Looks like the Manhattan phone book. I'm about to start working on the "Twenty Studies" near the end of part II. Study #20 is especially scary looking.
